The best pizza I ever had was at Mama Lucy's on Main Street. It's been 30 years but I can still taste that pizza and can still see the two guys who used to work there flipping dough over their heads.

Anyone remember their names?
____________

One of my favourite places was the deli on Vleigh Place. Keeping myself supplied with Italian ices, wacky packages and gum used up most of my spending money as a child!

Any fans of the deli here? Do you remember the names of the two guys who ran it? They were there for years and years.
____________

What bits of Flushing trivia do YOU remember?

I used to work at Brach's! It is still there. Used to live around the corner. I have to agree, Angelo's was much better but nobody could beat Gloria's pizza on Main Street adn Roosevelt Avenue in Flushing!

Dottys your so right Andy, I had totally forgotten the name, there was an older white haired lady that used to be there all the time, she moved around slow if I remember correctly, but she was a sweet lady.

I remember Angelo's when it was on Vleigh Place. And dotty's had the best BLT's. I remember the 5 & 10 on Vleigh too.My mother used to go to the beauty parlor on Vleigh and her cutter was"Mary" right off the boat from Ireland. They were friends for 50 years. The bakery on Main had the best rye bread and black and white cookies. The german deli was on Main and finally sold out a few years ago. I lived on 71st and Main. There were 2 candy stores on Main. One had a man who worked there with a concentration camp number on his arm. I used to buy 5 candy bars for a quarter.

Oh! I remember the 5 & 10. It was the best! Had the little mechanical horse outside that I had to beg my mother to ride. Gumball machines, too. My mother went to the same beauty parlor as yours. Her haircutter's name was "Jeannie." She wore a lot of eye makeup--typical 70's style! They used to treat me to a free "manicure."

OMG!!! You're f'g kidding!!!!!! I can't believe she is still alive! I can't wait to tell my mother!!! Can someone there please get a photo of Jeannie and send it to me? She was so beautiful. I wonder what she looks like, now! Please tell her that Esther Perlmutter sends her regards (if she remembers her? Please remind her that Esther had a Spanish accent.). Thanks so much for this great news!!!

Nancy Goldstein, I remember you. Sorry kid, you're not the first sistser/brother act because I just saw a picture of Barbara Perlmutter's brother Steven on this website.
But I love the fact that your dad responded. Hi Mr. Goldstein! Judy Berk here.
Mr. and Mrs. Goldstein were responsible for putting some culture into our lives. We went to Stuyvesant Playhouse to do modern dance, saw a Broadway show once. All in the station wagon.

Actually it was the Henry St, settlement playhouse which is where I am going Friday nite to hear some music. Why not get your brother & sister on. I just emailed Alice to get on. But yes it was in the station wagon from hell. doesn't Steven look great. You have to check out Janet Perlmtter's page, she wrote something about Mrs. Berman and the french songs she taught us.

nancy,
i distinctly remember the concentration camp # on that man's arm. me and my friend Barry Wertheim (class of 65) were getting a milk shake and i saw it. from my father being very interested in the subject of the holocaust, i knew what it was. I questioned Barry if i should ask the worker about his experiencs in the concentration camp. Barry Wertheim much more worldy than i, replied: "I don't think it's his favorite topic of conversation."
