Flushing, NY Trivia: Do You Remember This?

The best pizza I ever had was at Mama Lucy's on Main Street. It's been 30 years but I can still taste that pizza and can still see the two guys who used to work there flipping dough over their heads.

Anyone remember their names?

One of my favourite places was the deli on Vleigh Place. Keeping myself supplied with Italian ices, wacky packages and gum used up most of my spending money as a child!

Any fans of the deli here? Do you remember the names of the two guys who ran it? They were there for years and years.

I too, grew up on Mama Lucy's pizza and while my tastes have elevated to the world's best and one of the oldest: NYC's famous Lombardis ('75 alumnus Howard Stanger can corroborate this), I believe one of Mama Lucy's owners was Nick. I remember sitting in a booth with Mark & Eddie Siegel when slices were .35. Wow, I'm old.

Nick and Julio were the guys at mama lucy's! While we are strolling down memory lane, who remembers the five and dime, I don't rmember the owners, but that the woman was nice and the man was a bit of a grouch. But I remember they had small toys lined up like a candy store--- oh and what about that old fashioned candy store, where you could fill up a paper bag with penny candy!

If you are talking about the 5 and dime candy store at Vleigh place just across the the street from the park. I think the owners were related to a member of this board, Alice Chiffriller she is a cousin of my cousin guess that means we're related LOL I remember that candy store well, played a lot of pinball and asteroids in the back and bought my share of YooHoos, Sugar Daddy's and Wacky packs.

I also remember the deli, best dill pickles in the world! Can't remember the guys names though.

The deli on Vleigh Place, I believe we (Howard Stanger, his brother Larry, Steven Strauss, Ricky, n/k/a Patrick Burns, Eric Morganstern, who am I forgetting) would buy Yoo-Hoos, fruit punch, meatball heros and other tasty treats after playing ball in StangerParc.

Did this Burns guy have a brother Owen? I remember an Owen Burns. And yes the the Heros were the best, Ham and Swiss with tons of Mayo for me and of course the Dill Pickle. That Deli was great!

When my parent's owned the candy store it was "Joe's Luncheonette" , they bought the store from my Uncle Jerry & Bob Murphy. That was alot of fun for me, taking quarters from the register to play pinball all day!! My brother Joey did most of the cooking. - George and Frank owned the Deli for years!!!! My brother Gerald worked for them since he was a teenager, then bought the store and had it for several years.

The candy store on the corner was "Dotties". The guys in the deli were Frank & George. You are right, cousin, Alice's father, Uncle Joe ,owned the store for awhile and then the block CHANGED.... love ellen

Hi Chris,
The 5 and dime was on main street, I recall now the woman's name was ruth. I remember the candy store being on the same block as baskin robbins and mama lucy's---- back in the days when you could by black babies, gum cigarettes, and wax soda bottles filled with some sort of liquid that we actually ate!

i remember mama lucys, but i never thought it was as good as angelos, and in fact for a while there was capri in between the two of them. the candy store on vleigh was dottys, and back when i was really little, there was a kosher butcher across the street.
