Famous Alumni

We all are well aware of Mrs Simon's claim to fame but are there more alumni who have gone on to greatness?

I for one know Stanley Eisen (Paul Stanley of KISS) was a graduate. My uncle told me he went to 164 with him and they were good friends, I remember Mr. Ricca verified this for me. Stanley later went on to Parsons JHS I believe.

Anybody else?

This is so true. I lived down the block from them and watched them rehearse. Wow rubbing elbows with the rich and famous!

When I came home for a visit one time back in the 80's, I turned on the TV and there was Pete Salgo, '61: he was Dr. Peter by this time, and he was the medical correspondent for the local TV news show (I forget which channel, but it was one of the major networks!) Some of you may remember seeing him. His family lived over the right field fence in the schoolyard, looking from home plate - the house that had the big ham radio antenna.

Hey Rick.

I lived up the street from the Salgos and our families were close. Yes, I DO remember the ham radio tower and as a right hander batter, never reached the Salgo's yard.

Up the street from the Salgos... did you live near the Sterns (Barbara Stern was my classmate and she had an older brother whose name I forget...). Or were you up past the curve, where the long alley went behind? That long alley, with the backyards and porches on both sides, had a long incline up to its intersection with 77th ave, across from my block, which made it a great sledding and biking hill. So we hung out there a lot in the 50's.

In years since, I've had falling dreams that start atop that hill...

Hello Rick.

Yes, we lived between the Salgos and the Sterns (Dave & _____). The Sterns had a dog named Mr. Chips. Yes, the alleys behind our houses provided many great days of sledding.

I remember pulling one over the right filed fence and then hearing this humongous crashing noise.as I broke this big sliding glass window that the Salgo's had back then.

Of course, Davy Goldstein, Brad, and Duffy made me go there, to get the ball back.

Too bad I don't remember that, being a lefty and playing ball at 164 every day from the age of 5 to at least 17, I probably could have earned a few bucks. I still remember one of my great thrills in 5th or 6th grade was when Mr Gannon let me go on the roof and get all the pensie pinkies and spaldings that were up there from playing stickball. I felt like I was Jimmy the fireman.

I was a strict pull hitter and sadly, all my shots were to left and center fields. I remember a few times the super would go to the roof and toss all the spaldings down to us. We should plan a competition at the stickball courts for this summer and invite everyone to play. Who needs a rotator cuff anyway.
