oh, just mentioning in case, the 164 poster got confused...i thought Mrs. Bromberg was sort of old and unattractive when i was in 164, but looking at the posted pictures, i now think the opposite...

Hi Sharon, I had Mrs. Simon for third grade in 1970/1971. I remember her promising us that she would have a big party the next day if her son won the grammy that night for "Bridge over troubled water", and we were all so thrilled to see that he won! He came in at some point during the year and gave us autographs on those little yellow slips that we used to take math tests on ( I lost mine right after that). What a great memory.

Yes I also remember that day and the yellow slips. It was Karen Asquith's birthday so she got a personalized message from Paul Simon. It sounds too sweet to be true, but I remember her holding it against her heart and saying "I'll treasure this forever."

Do you remember Paul's brother Eddie coming in a few times? I heard him doing a spot on the radio quite a few years ago, but I don't remember what it was for.

I had zobler and sachs for kindergarten if I remember,
1st-mrs reville
2nd-oh shit cant think of it now lol but I think Mrs simon taught a reading class.My mom was a homeroom mother and I know she was very friendly with mrs simon
3rd mrs sondike-During school parties we only listened to simon and garfunkleI. I remember Paul coming and writing on the blackboard. I suppose it was about the time they really made it so all the teachers were really proud even though I dont think I understood who he really was

When I was in sixth grade I was one of the only ones that did not make Glee Club (no big shocker to my family), so I used to go downstairs to Mrs. Simon's first grade class and read them stories and be her helper. She gave me an autographed demo 45 of Bridge Over Troubled Waters, but when they broke up I was mad adn I thought "Well I guess I don't need this anymore" and threw it out! Was I a genius or what?

Hi
I had Mrs.Simon for a Home Ec Sewing Class in grade 5 or 6. We made aprons in her room.
She always wanted to fix me up with her son, because he was short, and I was shorter.
I told my mother I would never go out with such a shrimp....lolol Who knew?
The Simons lived about 5 houses from me on 70th Road.

No Rona, I lived 5 houses away. You must have... wait you were down the road more towards 141st St. I remember skating on 70th Road and playing football in the street with my brother Jeff and Paul and Eddie. They were short but they were fast! Paul babysat for me and my brothers and used to bring over his guitar to play for us. It's quite amazing how much I remember about those days close to 50 years ago, yet can't remember what I had for dinner 2 days ago.

Hello Alan

I remember you..You lived closer to 141 St.
I was at 137-42 70th Rd.
5 houses down from the Simons.
You moved to Long Island during elementary school didn't you?
I lived near the Kurzmans ( Marc and Ilene) and a few doors from the Brownsteins (Alan)
My parents sold the house in 1988.
Eddie Simon gave me guitar lessons for $3 an hour.
I quit when he said I would have to cut my nails.
He went into the guitar teaching business..advertising in subways etc..you can learn guitar in 3 lessons or less.

I lived at 137-72 70th Rd. The Simons lived at 137-62 70th Rd. So I was 5 houses up towards 141st St. and you were 10 down towards 137th St. Paul used to baby sit for us and would always play something on the guitar when my parents came home. We saw Belle at Radio City about 10 years ago during a Paul concert with Black Mambazo. Yes, we did move to LI in my junior year of HS. I went to Bowne in 10th grade only then Hewlett HS. It was time to get out of there :) Funny stuff happened in L.I. but that's for another time. Lovin' Boulder now. I don't think I ever got over the 60s and early 70s and so I find it very comforting here. It's kind of like coming home for me. And the weather is just unbeatable. Mid April and I'm going skiing on Saturday to Breckenridge. They're calling for another foot of snow in the next few days.

If my memory serves me right you and Bob Weinroth ( and other kids) sang background on a Paul version of Rise and Shine for kids.

I have absolutely no recollection of that...
But I certainly remember Bob Weinroth...he was my first date..ever.
in 6th grade..his father drove us to the movies.
