Let me add some responses to the "trip down memory lane"

1. Capri Pizza on Main Street was at one point "Mike's"
2. 5 and 10 (not 5 and dime in my family) was owned by Ruth and Eli Schifrin.
3. A male hairstylist in the beauty parlor on Main Street was Jimmy. He did my mother's hair.
4. I remember for $1,00 I could get 2 slices, small coke and italian ices at Mama Lucy.

Why I remember the above---who knows?
Now where did I put my my house keys....

Jimmy, did my mom's hair too, what flavor ices did you get, I always mixed cherry and chocolate (chocolate on the bottom)

Jimmy did my mother's hair too! She had had a stroke when i was 12 so I always had to walk her there, help her get across Main Street, and then Jimmy would tell me what time to come pick her up. He was such a nice guy.

The beauty parlor was Cut 'N Color---the owner was Roy (he died), there was Jimmy also.......but here is one for the record---it used to be called MARIO and SID's!!!!!! now ask your moms about that one---on Main Street and 73rd Avenue!!!!!Does anyone remember the bank that used to be on the other side of Main Street and 73rd Avenue???? I can almost see the inside of that bank---it had wood-type front doors..well it is part of the BRACH Family, and has not been a bank for quite a long time.....

The one on the east side of the street, right? Queens County Savings Bank. Had my account there, earning that Regulation Q limited 4% (oh, if I only earned 4% on my money now!). There was also a bank in the brick building where Vleigh Place intersected with Main Street at 73rd Avenue -- can't remember the name of that one.

Okay, some more main street trivia- Shimones had the best falafel, it was the messiet dinner... ever- but we would go there after practicing for plays at KGH jewish center. Deb teen was owned by a couple and their daughter Lila worked there. My mom would buy me lots of clothing there, but i remember all the clothing was piled on shelves behind the counter, so you couldn't look through it yourself- boy would I hate that now! Nibs was the mens store, and I used to hate to go in there. Daffney's was near deb teen and the only thing I remember getting there, was bartons chocolates, especially the almond kisses that came in a metal tin---- yum! I do remember the shoe store, with the really high cushioned kids seats I remember getting a balloon and a lollypop, Does anyone remember what was in the store before baskin robbins came in?? I think they sold dishwashers?

Yes Shimones had awesome falafels! I have yet to have better! Another Main street fixture was Nordens drugs and Harolds candy store closer to Union turnpike and Grand Union. Harold was a mean old grumpy guy. But I did meet Spider Man in Norden's Drugstore and even got his autograph LOL

so, do you remember the bowling alley---tucked away next to the drug store??? I remember being on a bowling league, when I was very young--- I was terrible, and only bowled gutterballs, I also remember walking everywhere, imagine that? To this day, vivian strauss and i argue about what the halfway point was between our houses, because we would always walk the othe,r halfway home.

I remember the bowling alley. I remember a long dark staircase to get downstairs and I remember it was smelly and old. It was under a drug store...I think.
