PS 164 Alumni

We all are well aware of Mrs Simon's claim to fame but are there more alumni who have gone on to greatness?

I for one know Stanley Eisen (Paul Stanley of KISS) was a graduate. My uncle told me he went to 164 with him and they were good friends, I remember Mr. Ricca verified this for me. Stanley later went on to Parsons JHS I believe.

Anybody else?

You must've seen that movie with 10 other people in the theatre. It only had a 2 week run but ended up on the NY Times best 10 films of 1994 (or 1995). It was memorable for me because it was the first time I was in the main titles of a movie.

i like when jeff bridges has long hair in movies (as opposed to when he plays "straight" characters like The President or Barbara Streisand's "goy of the moment" like in "The Mirror Has Two Faces"
yes, i know the movie didn't do well - the music was by what's his name who wrote lyrics for Brian Wilson in his beach boy days...

are you making a living in the movies at the moment? seems like an incestuous field. As long as we are in name-dropping mode: Danny Elfman owns 3 pieces (art) of mine he saw in a show.

Awesome! Is there a website where I can see your work? I'd love to see your photography. I went to a big Photo Expo a few years ago in Santa Monica and packed as it was, it was teeming with celebs. Curtis Hanson (I worked on a couple of his films) and Ben Stiller were amongst the ones eyeing art.

A friend made a website for me but I don't know how to add or alter it in any way. It's at www.geocities.com/mistyonbayard.

Ry Cooder used to write lyrics for the Beach Boys???
Yes, I've been making a living as an actor since about 1985. I don't know if the entertainment industry is anymore incestuous than other fields. Growing up in a Jewish neighborhood and not unlike the Chinese, mention anything and someone's got a brother-in-law or cousin in their company.

Feel free to email me. I worry about boring everyone else with this entertainment trivia!

Hi Karen! I remember your name. I was trying to figure out why I'd remember the name of a girl a grade behind me, and I'm suspecting it was either because we both hung out at Vleigh Place Park in the summer, or because on the Jewish holidays we were among that small band of kids who had to go to school. I remember we'd be gathered together into one or two classrooms and do arts and crafts most of the day - maybe see a movie in the auditorium in the afternoon. The divisions among grades and cliques broke down on those days.

We lived almost at the intersection of 141st and Vleigh Place - I could see the pharmacy on the corner, the Chinese laundry, and Rocco's Bar & Grill from my living room window. Did you live in the Regency apartments or the garden apartments on the other side of Vleigh? And did you know Barbara Tsao? I believe her older brother's name was David...

I will definitely catch you Saturday night! The photos on your website are absolutely striking, by the way.

Hmmm...I don't remember any of those things or places! We started on 79th Avenue, then moved to Vleigh Place but I left when I was 15. I ended up being the band of kids who hung out in Greenwich Village and don't remember spending much time in the neighborhood. It's hard for anyone to fathom now, but I was very very shy when I went to PS 164. I didn't know Barbara Tsao. It could be that I've been away too many years to remember much! Thanks for checking out my website. Someone built that website for me and I haven't been able to upload any new shots.

rick,
when my parents went on vaction to florida, my maid (that's what we called them in those days/ she was the 'day-worker') was in charge of me and my sister. unknowingly (she was black and from The Bronx) she sent me and my sister to school on a jewish holiday. i remember how quiet it was, and remember even then there were a disproportionate number of blonde kids in attendance - a strange vibe in our mostly jewish school.

Could not resist commenting when you mentioned Jewish Holidays!
I was one of the kids who went to school on those Jewish holidays days, but at that time had no idea why there was only a small group of kids at school. We were from Japan and I didn't know much about various religions. Loved sitting in a circle and reading books or doing fun stuff on those days. Those days were a mystery to me until I moved back to the US and had my own child and sent her to public school. I then realized that those days were Jewish holidays. I still look forward to those holidays being on a week day so my child (and I) can enjoy a day off!

One of my brothers told me Kiss was named after KISSena Blvd.

Two guys that would certainly add to the Kiss storys are Patrick Gentini and Jay Sessler...Both graduated in 66 i think, and were friends and fellow musicians back in the day.
Where are those guys ? Anyone know?
I am pretty sure Jay was playing guitar back then with Stanley....

hi, it's nancy goldstein. i was in philip grossman's class. we used to always get bagels after school from you when they were still warm. how delicious.anyway i met up with natalie tores who still knows patrick but maybe he's not doing so great. do you remember us?
Delete
I do remember you.....and if its the same "NAT" ...i for sure remember her.....
Even if Pat is not doing so great, i would really like to touch base with him...
I have contacted a couple of guys, and i wont say who, and they have not responded this......I guess eventually they will.......freaken mopes.
I am sure a few of us either have, or had periods of not doing so well......
One guy i know for sure that has had those "not doing so well times" is Donald Pretto.....its a freaken shame.....That guy one of the nicest guys "at Heart" you would ever meet.....sheesh.

I remember Pat Gentini as being one of the "best" looking guys in Kew Garden Hills...Sorry, do not know what happened to him, or Jay Sessler, whom I also remember....WOWOW what memories!!! There was also another guy who lived next to Pat on 76th Ave. (next to Willy's Candystore)---George Frank, he used to hang around with all the guys from the candy store...
