Dancing School On Vleigh Place

Does anyone remember the name of it and the teachers name???

What year(s) did you take your dance lessons? Was it only ballet, or tap and jazz, too?

I took ballroom dance lessons on Vleigh Pl. It was after my Bar Mitzvah in 1961. A neighbor on the block suggested it to my mother. I had to dress up for the lesson.s The teacher felt that put the students in the appropriate frame of mind. I think I could still pull off a cha cha cha.

Just remember that the owner's name was Bill Garr. I took guitar lessons there and he also asked the guys to be in the dance classes (for free) because he didn't have enough for the girls in the classes.

I went to ballet on Vleigh Place in the fifties. The teacher was Charlotte Gruen. Susan and Elizabeth Ford studied there too; Susan was my age. This must have been before Bill Garr.

Ladies,
Yes, it was Progressive Dance Studio run by Trudy and Bill. I took half hour of ballet and tap for years as a little kid, then full hours of ballet, tap and jazz. I also took guitar lessons with Bill. Loved the recitals. Cindy Brodsky and I were friends and rivals. The recitals were fabulous. Something to live for, like Glee Club with Mrs. Bromberg and Mrs. Farkas.
Bill even invited me to the Ballroom classes, as he needed girls.

Loved that place. It made the neighborhood for me!

Debbie Haun was a teacher at the studio for many years. She eventually was co-owner with Beverly Ron. Many years later they separated their ownership
I still keep in touch with both. The studio was my home away from home.

Don't remeber the name of the school, but I took ballet & tap there. The dancing teacher's name was Miss Tippy, later on I took guitar and singing lessons there with her husband who's name was Bill.
