I believe it was Regency. The it became PJ's Dance and Charisma!! I only bowled there one year and then the QVAA moved to JIB Lanes.

OMG - Regency lanes was a basement bowling alley with like 10 or 12 lanes. My sister and I were on a QVAA league that bowled there too, my dad (Hector) was one of the coaches. I remember we got to know one of the guys (forgot his name) and were allowed to check out the back of the alley. He showed us the bowels of an alley - when a ball was stuck or how to reposition the pins. Very cool times. Regency turned into a dance studio and then a video rental place. And yes Helen - I do love calzones! Was it me who introduced them to you? Well I'm honored as Enersto's was the place to go once Mama Lucy's closed (or was taken over by other owners...I forget!)

I remember Regency Lanes. We used to go bowling there a few times a week. You walked down into the basement like you walked into Footloose! LOL

There was a pharmacy on the corner for many years, which later became Jan's Ceramic Workshop. My mom and I both took lessons there and made enough ashtrays, Christmas trees, mugs and knick knacks to fill 3 houses, never mind our own! I still have the Christmas trees and the first thing I ever made, which was a dog.

I remember Jan had a sign inside her shop saying,...

BEAUTIFUL TO LOOK AT
WONDERFUL TO HOLD
BUT IF I AM BROKEN
CONSIDER ME SOLD!

I remember Mama Lucy's I also remember the 5&10 one of the owners was Eli and I can't remember his wife. I think that the place had a bad fire, and he woudl sell damaged goods to the unsuspecting. I wish I remembered the beat cop who stood in front of L&L. He used to hand out lollipops to kids sometimes. I have many fond memories of Wilie's as well. It was a great palce to grow up, and it just had the feel of a small town. -Adam

Rick,

In all the years we lived in the neighborhood, I never went to Stella d'Oro, but of course remember where it was. I guess it was too expensive. Dining out with the family was always on Sunday Night at the Chinese place next to Cake Box next to Grand Union. Chow Mein combination was 1.95 if I remember, and my father was probably annoyed that I always ordered the spare ribs combo which was maybe 3.95.

What was the name of that Chinese Restaurant next to Grand Union... OMG, we've must have eaten their 3x per week... My younger brother, Mike, celebrated his Bar-Mitzvah there (LOL)... Do you remember my older brother Steven?

I think the name of the chinese restaurant was called "Yees". I remember going there and ordering the $4.95 special's. I always had the beef and brocolli, with fried rice, egg roll, won ton soup, and the fortune cookie...

Sure I remember Steve. We were friends growing up. I remember him coming back from the military about a foot taller than he was when he left. What did they feed him?
