PS 164 Alumni

We all are well aware of Mrs Simon's claim to fame but are there more alumni who have gone on to greatness?

I for one know Stanley Eisen (Paul Stanley of KISS) was a graduate. My uncle told me he went to 164 with him and they were good friends, I remember Mr. Ricca verified this for me. Stanley later went on to Parsons JHS I believe.

Anybody else?

How's this for a belated reply? (though I know you were asking Nancy) -

I remember Robbie Piazza. He lived on my block for a while, by Vleigh Place and 141 St. I graduated in '61, and he was a couple years younger than me. For one summer at least, he and his dad used to be out in the backyard court every evening in the summer, with a wiffle ball and bat, his dad throwing him pitch after pitch. I remember him starting Little League.

Then he must have moved, because I lost track of him for a few years, till he showed at the stickball courts one summer. And he was good, of course. But he wasn't serious about it. I've enjoyed hearing more of his story here, and about the other kids around his age I'd see around.

We all know that Art Garfunkel went to PS 164, but did his brothers go too?
Delete
Not sure about his brothers, but Art Garfunkel's parents lived across the street from me on 72nd Ave. We would periodically see Art pull up to the house in a taxi, and walk in carrying flowers. My sister had Mrs. Simon in 3rd grade, and for one of the class plays, Paul Simon wrote a song that was performed by the kids.

To all of those that did break a window at my house I am taking donations for all the glass. Just joking
I have moved into that house and I still get balls hit in there as well as bottles and cans too.
My brother Peter Salgo is still on TV: Sunday Mornings on Channel 21 at 11:30 "Second Opinion".
I have been an Associate Director with CBS News for 32 years and a speaker and Documentary maker.

As a right handed batter, I didn't develop my opposite field power until later in life. Sorry Jeff, I was not one of the few who launched a baseball into your yard.

Hi Jeffrey:
I think I was a year ahead of you and was in Mr. Gulkin's class before moving on to Parson's Jr. HS. I also studied theatre and have worked as an actor in LA for many years. I also had a sitcom pilot deal with Castle Rock. Since I'm athletically-challenged, I know I didn't break any windows in your house but our family lived on 141st Place near Main and later on Vleigh Place. You might've been in the same year with my sister Kathy.

I went to P&S with Peter, but I never realized that we had both gone to PS164. I believe he is still practicing anesthesiology; is that right? I really enjoyed his "Second Opinion" show; as an MD, I felt he really clarified the issues for the medical consumer in a way that did not over simplify or talk down to the viewer. Say hello for me, please.

I heard that Harvey Weinstein, head of Miramax went to 164. I personally was in Jerry Beck's class and just found out that he is a renowned animator and animation historian in L.A. He animated "The Bee Movie" that Seinfeld narrated. George Joblove was in my class too and I heard he was in charge of special effects for George Lucas. Not too shabby!

I just read somewhere (Wikipedia maybe?) that the Weinstein Brothers came from Queens but I don't know if they went to 164. One of my brothers told me Kiss was named for KISSena Blvd.!

I was told Stanley went to Parsons.

I recently met Paul Stanley at an art gallery that was showing off his work. He has become an artist and has done well. I purchased one of his paintings so was given the opportunity to speak with him for a few minutes. He was very nice and we discussed a bit about the old neighborhood. Yes indeed he went to PS164! He also went to a famous school in Manhattan for art and music.
