Hi Teddy.
Walked around the neighborhood on Saturday morning around 10:30am. The neighborhood was very quiet. I walked in front of your house and Jerry's...but, No, I did not knock on your mom's door. I saw a nice dark blue Jag parked in the driveway...that must be yours. My house had been knocked down but not yet rebuilt, so there was a wooden fence/wall around the property. Same thing with Neil Z's house...very sad to not be able to see my house. The Reunion was fun and I am glad I decided to attend.

Teddy,
Does your mother still live in the same house from our days at PS 164?
Do you think I can knock on her door to say hi when I visit the old neighborhood for the Reunion? I plan to walk around that morning and reminisce and take pictures for my mother.
Are you going?

Hey Teddy:

Glad to hear you are doing well in your present life. I think I was another one of the frozen few who went with you to see the Jets at Shea when Namath ruled the world. Please give my regards to your Mom. Have fond memories of all day games of Risk in your basement.

Wow! I'm impressed with the general malcontent part. We did have season tickets from 1965 until the Jets left for NJ and never missed a game. Must admit do not remember all the guests but just think how tough that game made you without having to go into the army . Are you still a fan--I've become generally ambivalent. Gave up the seats because NJ was a pain getting home from. Are you in the NY area?

Teddy Nikolis. You are responsible for one of my worst traits: I'm a New York Jets fan. You took me to a game (I think your family had season's tickets); it was the coldest I'd ever been in my life, sitting in the concrete of Shea Stadium in a 40 MPH wind in December; or was it November? I don't even recall the game, but I assume they lost. Being a Jets fan has been all downhill (well, with the exception of 1969) ever since.

I owe you for that, bud.

Nice Picture!
What was the occasion?
I would not have recognized you but it could be the mustache that is in the way.
When I saw Neil Z. in '73, he told me that your hair was either long or in a pony tail (when you were in college, I guess)...true?

I didn't even know about this event. How wonderful!
My daughter was just studying the Great Schism a few months ago and the topic just came up again on Saturday in the car with her and her friend. A good friend of mine belongs to the Eastern/Russian Orthodox Church and another friend is a Coptic Christian, and I often ask questions about their religion (I went to a Catholic school after I left NY so all this is very interesting to me.) I never thought about it, but you must belong to the Greek Orthodox Church then. You are going to have a great time. I would LOVE to hear your account when you get back. Have you been to Rome before?
As for David Jablon, was he a PS 164'er? I just asked Gordon, but no he doesn't know him. I will keep my ears and eyes open.
Have a safe and great trip!

Hey Teddy, what have you been up to?
I was browsing through a children's mail order catalogue and then remembered about the Perfume-making set you gave me at my going away party in Miss Emerick's class. It was one of the popular toys for girls at that time and I wanted one so badly....so you know how happy I was especially when it was coming from you. Your mother was behind this I am sure...I don't think I ever got to thank you or your mother. This is extremely belated (45 years ---that makes us sound old) but Thank You! And please thank your mother for me...I really loved that gift and took it back to Tokyo and made different mixtures. It was a lot of fun.

Funny you should mention the knock downs and rebuilds because after I read your comment, I went to Google Earth to see if anything on my block changed...the satellite photo had just been updated and it looks like either my house or the house next to it is in the process of being knocked down and rebuilt! I would hate for that house to be mine with so many good memories...:-(
I am sorry to hear about your father. My dad passed away in '78. My mother now lives with my brother and his family. She comes to visit my family ever summer. She just turned 87. (My brother signed up on the site too under class of '60)
Gordon started on Magnum PI and then went on to shows like Jake and the Fatman, Key West, Diagnosis Murder,Joan of Aracadia, etc...now he is on Grey's Anatomy. Do you travel when you work with Jim Ivory or is this all in NY?

Teddy:
That whole incident did not occur in Binghamton. It was in Lake Placid when I was covering the 1980 Olympic Winter Games - you know the one with the "Miracle on Ice." That skating name doesn't sound familiar. Lake Placid, before the Olympics, was a haven for skaters trying to familiarize themselves with the ice. The skaters that I did know from that time were Linda Fratianne (sp?), Randy Gardner and Tai Babalonia (sp?), and there were others whose name I don't recall. There was also a British dance couple whose names I don't recall.Even at that time, it was clear to me that internal politics trumped talent in figure skating competitions. Aside from my day job with a newspaper in which I covered the planning and preparations for the Games, I was doing a lot of freelance work for Reuters at the time, especially on skating, speed skating, ski jumping, bobsled, luge and skiing competitions. So I became sort of an expert on obscure sporting competitions.

Can't believe your mother had it on the wall after all these years. Are you sure it is from me? When you figure out your digital camera, please do post it or send it via email (metalmikki@aol.com). Would love to take a look.
So, you have been quite busy with studying and working...reading your resume makes my head spin a bit. Who is this Win Hong? Is he a p.s. 164 alumni too?
Merchant/Ivory? I've seen their films...I remember they were quite popular in Japan in the '80's. Gordon has been working on tv productions for almost 20 years now....At one point, we thought features would be good, but when you have a family a tv series give your more stability in terms of location....so we've been in LA for a long time now.
Was thinking the other day, bu was it your grandmother who used to sit outdoors by the garage or the front of the house? Do your parents live in the same house? How is the old neighborhood? Perhaps when you figure out how to use the camera, I could ask you a big favor and see if you can take a picture of my old house when you are out there. My address was 137-48 75th Rd.....Just around the corner from school and from your place too.
By the way, I guess I should address you as Ted and not Teddy.

I wrote you a Christmas card? Really?
I moved to LA in '91 to get married. I met my husband in Hawaii during a film shoot. I used to work as an interpreter in the movie/film/music business in Japan. I am what you now call a homemaker/stay at home mother and trying to raise a teenage daughter who thinks she knows everything. After I left NY, I lived in Tokyo for 5 years, Ireland for 3 years, back in Tokyo for a year and in Colombia (S. America) for a year. Been in Tokyo since '73 until I moved here in '91. The only time I have been to NY is in the spring of '73 for 4 or 5 days. That is when I got to see Neil. He told me that you were at U of P...or was it Penn State ? You seemed to have had an interesting life with all the different kinds of jobs. Did you study Archeology and Business?

You're very lucky that you avoided the Felds. I had a run-in with them, both father and son, in 1980. It wasn't pretty. They didn't particularly like what I wrote about one of their ice shows. My editor and publisher were right there behind, and sometimes in front of me, but the Felds tried their now famous bullying tactics. I became acquainted with the whole skating world during my four years in Lake Placid from '77 to '81 covering the planning and prep for the Winter Olympics, and the the Games themselves. The whole skating scene is a different kind of reality.

Check Jerry Cohen's page for a discussion of your parents old Jag.
