hi judy how are you ,just found this site its amazing after 43 years seeing how everyone made out .the last time i saw everyone was at graduation in 67.hope all is well.
I'm sending in my check for the reunion next week
This tragedy has been my life for the past seven days.
The unfortunate thing was that I knew one of the victims well. I knew her from synagogue, she lived around the corner from me, and her son and his wife were friends with my wife and I. When these things happen, it's always someone else. This time it was not. And that made it all the more difficult to do what I had to do.
Hi Judy-Sorry it's taken me so long to write...been somewhat crazed lately!
So good to hear back from you. I remember those days when you girls came out to the new house. Oh, how i hated it when i first moved. I was a Queens girl, and it took a long time to adjust to the suburban life. For a while, i used to come in on Saturdays with my Dad when he had a store on Queens Blvd, and hangout with you and barbara. It's been a long time...
Life's been good-- i have 3 kids. My oldest son Andy is a junior @Cornell, my daughter Nicole is a senior in HS. She'll be going off to Cornell in the fall as well, and my youngest son Cory is in 5th grade. Not many 54 year old mothers in the grade!
I don't know if i'll be able to go to the reunion yet. It's my daughter's 18th birthday. when it gets closer, i'll have a better idea of what i'm doing. Would love to see the school again and my old apartment. Remember i used to live right across the street?
Do you love living in Atlanta? I was there about 2 years ago for a Bar Mitzvah and absolutely loved it. My husband and I always say that if we had to do it all over again, we would have moved out of New York. Do you ever come up to NY to visit? Do you still have family here? Be in touch and let me know what you're up to. Best, cheryl

I slept on it last night after writing to you. I thought that was a little presumptuous of me to ask you to convince me, and I apologize for that. That was wrong and pretty stupid.
I'm leaning toward coming. I discussed it with my wife this AM, she's not so inclined. So I'll probably send in a check for myself within the next two weeks. My daughter is going to Israel this summer, and I'll have to drop her off and pick her up @JFK, so the dates, if I am lucky, may line up. I am unsure of her departure and arrival dates.
So take it mostly as an affirmative. And you're idea of writing about it might not be so out of the question. Maybe I can query a couple of publications and see if there is a market.

I'm really torn about it. Sometimes I feel like yeh, definitely. And then other times I feel like nah, it's not for me.
I'm sort of ambivalent. As you can tell, it depends on my mood. You and Barbara want to try to convince me?
Hi Judy- Is this crazy or what? I left a message for Barbara and she reminded me that the last time I saw her was at the Raleigh Hotel where she was working as a counselor-- probably early 70's?? If I remember correctly, you were there too, right? How is it possible that so many years have passed ? When i found the site, i started digging through pictures and other school mementos which triggered so many fond memories from the good old days at 164. Would love to hear from you ...be in touch when you have the chance.
All best, Cheryl (slimcherc@aol.com)

You're the first one who has said they wouldn't have recognized me. Kids I hung around with - such as Jerry Cohen - have commented here that I haven't changed since I was eight. I don't know if I should take it as a compliment or criticism.
It's hard to believe you too remember those names.
It would have been a better answer if I used "among" instead of "between."
Between is to be used twoitems, among is for more than two items.
On the reunion: Hell, I don't know what I'm doing tomorrow, let alone next June. It's too far away to make plans. I tend to be very impulsive.
Paris - never have been there, but my neighbor is a French teacher. It's like "I'm not a doctor but I play one on TV." She speaks French so often I feel like I live in France. At least the $ is improving against the Euro. One U.S. $ is worth 74 cents as opposed to 66 cents when I was overseas this summer. Your best bet: Use an ATM card to get Euros from a cash machine rather than exchange cash. It's a better deal than the exchange bandits.
I've been out of touch for some time.
Sent my first one off to college about five weeks ago. Even though she's 2 1/2 miles away, we barely see her. Communicate through text, mostly, though she did come home for the New Year. She thought she'd feel uncomfortable being at a school in her backyard, but she ended up loving the school, and her desire to transfer to Univ. of Mich. or someplace else has diminished. In fact, some of her classmates are jealous that if she wants to go home and visit here parents, it's a 10 minute bus ride. Or, my work is right across the street from the entrance of the University, so she can walk over and bother me.
What's the name of your friend's daughter that goes to BU, and do you know where she lives on or off campus. I'll have Rebecca keep an eye and ear out for her. One question, did you daughters return from college for the first time with a little bit of attitude?
Hi Judy. This is David Moin. I received an email from Kathy Farkas via your computer a few weeks ago. Boy was I surprised! Therefore, my return email is for both you and Kathy. I'm not the best at returning emails, so please forgive the long delay. I was also out of town for a week.
I think I was in the same grade as Kathy, who I remember well. Judy, I remember you too, but not quite as well. You may or may not remember that I was and still am a close friend of Marty Schiff. I remember Kathy and Marty hanging out together, while I was more of an observer.
You may also remember that I was the reluctant star of a third grade play called "The Salad Bowl." I played the controversial role of the peanut, who was excluded from the salad until it became known that a peanut is a fruit and could gain entry into the salad bowl. I believe it was a parody on prejudice. Hence, I was nicknamed "Peanuts" which stuck for several years. In fact, at a John Bowne High School 25th reunion, Jill Braunstein, who married Jeff Marcus, called me Peanuts. A bit embarrassing for me.
Kathy, I saw your brother Bobby at the funeral of Marty's father, which I think was about a year ago. I lose track of time very readily. It was good to see him, even under the circumstances.
And I see Marty a couple of times a year, either he visits me in Manhattan or I visit him upstate where he lives.
I'm a writer, (technically, senior editor) at Women's Wear Daily, which is a trade, fashion newspaper. I've been there forever. It's a totally fun, interesting job, and the pay isn't bad.
I've also done a bit of freelancing, not much, and wrote a marketing textbook about eight years ago. No need to buy a copy.
Anyway, it was quite nice to receive an email from Kathy, via Judy, and would like to know more about how both of you are getting on.
Hope everybody is okay, Perhaps we will communicate again.
Bye, David Moin
I've heard that about cruises. I never thought that I would like a cruise but a woman I work with had a similar experience as you. She also went to Greece and Turkey. My husband and I went to Jamaica in May. That is our vacation. We went scuba diving.
Just got back from a weekend in North Carolina with Nancy Goldstein and Kathy Farkas. We went hiking and canoeing. Lots of fun.
I'm glad that you enjoyed the cruise so much.
Just returned from the overseas trip: Italy, Greece Turkey. I have to admit I was ambivalent about the cruise - thinking the whole experience wasn't for me. My wife just booked it. Now I'm glad I went. It was just a great time, especially with the kids (separate room for them - they found many friends and were staying out quite late). If you can convince your husband, I think you'd have a great time on a Mediteranean cruise. (Ours was Celebrity Lines and I'd give it a high rating). They even had Friday night services led by guests on the ship.
Hi Judy- It's great to hear from you. I never knew that Kathy, Nancy G, Nancy V, Barbara, and yourself were the "Holy Five". Was this an Orthodox, Conservative, or Reformed Congregation? Say hi to everyone on your upcoming trip. Next week my family is going to Lake Placid and Lake George for some R&R.
Cute, but I'm not afraid of you. I know I have the pix somewhere. I have a feeling that when my ex I split things up she might have ended up with them. Oh, and I'm not afraid of her either. I need to go through the pix she has in her possession. I know I've seen them before we split up, I just don't remember seeing them since, that's why I think she has them. I will eventually find them. You've been very patient and understanding, so just a little more patience and you'll have them once again.
Some of our best family times have been on those vacations. Twice, to Lake George and once to the Outer Banks, we brought two of my daughter's friends and one of the son's friends, seven people in all. Same friends each time. And though we dreaded the large vacation going in, it turned out to be a great time for all - or at least I think it was. No. Everyone had fun. And during the California trip, my son and daughter really bonded as siblings, aside from entertaining us in the back seat of the rental.
We go overseas in mid-July.
On your N.C. property. Don't worry, real estate prices will eventually rebound.
Nancy's and I have been in touch. My son indeed did know Nancy's cousin's son from Hebrew School here.
Sports during the summer: We have the NY Mets AA minor league team in town, which is always good for a pleasant diversion. We see the big league ballplayers before they become spoiled brats. My daughter works concessions there. My son begins working concessions there next week. It's funny, because they often get the Orthodox summer camps from the Catskills coming up for games every once in a while. When they come to concession stand looking for packaged items with the pareve symbol, the workers in the stand defer to Rebecca, who goes through the stuff telling the Yeshiva boys which has the K symbol and which don't. I think they put one Jewish kid in every one of the concession stands to deal with the Yeshiva boys.
During the summer I usually spend my time watching my son's Legion ball games. My daughter doesn't have a boyfriend that I know of, but she hangs out with a very good group of kids. Since she's going to college 2 1/2 miles away a lot of the pressure of getting stuff for the move on to campus is off. She has orientation in 2 weeks. She knows the campus well, and has many friends taking the same route. I used to teach there as an adjunct, but quit when the money failed to keep pace with the amount of tsuris I used to get from my students.
In past summers we have rented my friend's camp on Lake George in Ticonderoga, or go to our our old stomping grounds in Lake Placid where my brother-in-law still lives, or rent a condo in the Outer Banks, or the best one was our trip up the PCH in California. This year, however, I keep promise I made to the two kids following the Bar and Bat Mitzvah - and taking the family on a Mediterranean cruise: Italy, France, Greek islands, Turkey, and some other ports.
