Hey Michael,
Great to hear from you and I apologize for not responding sooner. I'm a little slow with returning emails. I remember you well from P.S. 164 and truly enjoyed seeing you at the John Bowne H.S. reunion several years ago, along with Irving Kaufman, Dennis Sackett, Marty Schiff and Jill Braunstein Marcus, among others. Have you heard from Irving? In high school, we took a photography class together and he would make me laugh so hard.
In elementary school, you were one of the guys I really admired, not simply because of your softball skills, but because even at such a young age, I felt you were like the team captain, a leader in several respects.
I remember there were some good parties after school with some very pretty girls like Gina Wolfman, who I had a crush on, and Michelle Bayard. Any idea what became of them? I did a good job losing touch with many people that I liked in elementary school, partly because I was always really very introverted, right through high school. I still am, deep down, but I was able to get out of my shell in college.
That's fantastic your son is studying journalism at New Paltz. I went to college in Binghamton, though I didn't study journalism. I got into it in my late twenties, kind of by fluke, and now I work at Women's Wear Daily, writing business stories about the retail, real estate and fashion industries. It's great fun, stimulating, and I consider it more of a lifestyle than a job. As your son must know, print journalism is a shrinking profession. It's about cable and the Internet, and the job market is tough. Publishing is hurting. However, it is also a high turnover arena. If your son wants to talk someday, I would be happy to try to answer any questions and try to help. What I do is pretty specialized.
I never got married but still hold out hope. You never know where life takes you.
Hope everything is good, and thanks so much for thinking of me. We'll be in touch again. Isn't this an amazing website?

Mike, good to hear from you. Remember you, too. Yes, I covered Tiananmen Square for Newsday/New York Newsday. Have been thinking about it all because of the 20th anniversary. My son, who's just finishing 8th grade, studied it in school (ancient history, I guess). I haven't quite gotten over it yet, though, nor, of course, has China..... I'm doing well, thanks, and hope you are, too -- and hope your son enjoys this very difficult but very rewarding field. Rgds, Jeff
Hey, Mike, it was great seeing you guys, too. Beautiful family!
Please let me know if you'll ever be out to LA. I'd love to show you my side of the country!
Barbara
Mike - Doing great. By the way, I found your comment about baseball amusing as that was the thing I thought of when I saw your name. Timing is ironic in that I am very active with my son (13) and his baseball. I keep telling him stories about the glory days of the QVAA.
Many years!! We saw the Koppelmans and Steve Silverburg last summer and were talking about you! How have you been! How's your family? We are fine - life is busy. Please bring me up to date.
Hey Mike: Do you ever hear from or of Bobby Bittman? For awhile, we all were inseparable, then in Jamaica we drifted apart. Hope all is well with you and your family.
Thanks for getting back so fast. Yes I have a good chiropractor and after a couple or so visits I feel better but then I stop going and the pain comes back. I guess I know what I have to do and will try to pay more attention to myself. I'm so lazy when not working. Anyway, thanks again and let me know if you hear of any new treatments. Jo
Hi Michael. If memory serves me, you were friends with Israel Kauffman. He owes me $1,75 from 2nd grade. If you are in touch with him, please tell him, with interest, he now owes me $317,220.18. Of course he could round it down to an even $300K. By the way, who are the hot babes in your picture?

Hey Mike. You and I and Bobby Bittman used to hang out together quite a bit. I remember going to your house, which I think was on Jewel Ave to watch PBA bowling. You have a beautiful family.

Hey Mike. My daughter just told me that her boyfriend's band, 4 to 3, is playing tomorrow night, 6/18 at The Crazy Donkey. Any chance that your son is playing there also? Hope all is well. Let us know if your son will be there or anywhere nearby in the future. Would love to see you guys. Ken
Yes, that was the Bowne reunion in 2001. I went to it although I went to the HS of Art and Design. I knew lots of people there. Jeryl Kipnis, Bobby Hertz, Gail Zaidman, Ellen Jablon...nice to reconnect every now and then!
Mikey boy! I would imagine on my next trip north, we should get together....it might be in the next couple of months...

All our best. You were a pretty darn good ball player too.

Look me up if you ever get to South Florida.

Sounds like things are good by you. We're all getting old. I have two girls--a college grad and a college sophomore.
Still see Perlman and some of the other guys.
Tough times for journalism, but it's far from dead. Tell your son to push harder than everyone else and he'll make it.
Steve
