Hi Karen!
I was just browsing the East West Players website and saw a familiar face. Had no idea about the show and that you are in it! And it ends soon...would love to go but I leave LA next Tuesday and I don't have time...I am soooo bummed!
Hope you are having fun!
Hi Karen,
I did make it to the reunion. It was a ton of fun. So are you in NY now or you were? I am going back again on June 20 for the week. I have lots of family things going on so it all works out well.
Actually, I am near Torrance, about 5 minutes away. I am in Palos Verdes, up the hill. Do you get down here much? My regular email address is coreyj62@cox.net. Would love to hear from you and meet up some time.
Please let me know when your episode of the Philanthropist is going to be aired. Would love to watch it.
Voice overs...gosh, once I was asked to do one..just a short one for some extras...failed miserably...Think that part ended up on the editing room floor...thank goodness!!! However, my voice as an operator may have still been used. This is in Japan, so no Union, no $$$. I was working as an interpreter, so was asked to do the bit in English because I just happened to be there. It was a good experience anyway.
Yes, it was fun!
And I loved walking around my old neighborhood too.
There was only one person from my third grade class, but I got to meet the 3 others from my class of '66 and more. There were a few people who knew my older brother too ('60), so that was interesting too. Drove past the former Grand Union...the present market occupies part of your father's restaurant and some other stores...
Was it stormy in NY on Tuesday? I was in Boston then, but it rained there...no storm though. So what are you doing in NY? You missed the reunion by a few days!!!
Hi Karen.
Sorry you weren't at the reunion. It would have been good to meet a fellow Californian. I did meet up with Yumiko. We all had a good time. Hope to meet you one of these days.
Take care,
Corey
Hi Karen!
Did Kathy get a chance to check out the site and the class photo?
Just wondering as the Reunion draws closer.
By the way, whereabouts in Los Angeles do you live (if you don't mind me asking)?
isn't it a pity that the best pizza is costco? mama lucy, capri, and angelo's rocked, even stella d'oro. out here there is nothing that could compare to the worst pizzeria in NY. when i go to NY i usually bring back bagels.
you are right about some streets in the old neighborhood where you do get that small town feeling. vleigh place is one of them. even right around PS164 is still a quiet area.
are you going to the reunion?
Yes, Kathy and I were together in 3rd grade, Miss Emerick's class. Kathy, Jenny Chin and I were the only Asians in that class...I posted my class pictures on the website. You can either go to my page and check out my pictures or go to the Class Photos site and look for 1963 room 3-3. Kathy is in the picture. I left in May of 3rd grade to go back to Japan, but I now live in Los Angeles. Do you think Kathy will join the website? How is she? Are you going to the Reunion?
Hi Karen!
You mentioned about your father's restaurant right next to Grand Union. My classmate Kathy Hoo's father owned that restaurant...I know Hoo and Huie are different, but is Kathy your sister? I met two musicians, Phil Budhos and John Caruso, back in the 80's who used to frequent your father's restaurant. Every time we would go to Grand Union, I always wanted to go into your father's restaurant...
Yumko
actually, work did bring me out here. my email address is coreyj62@msn.com. i own and operate a warehouse near long beach.
i do look forward to seeing another one of your videos. it was funny with a great meaning behind it.
queens people in fairbanks? wow. that is a stretch.
i graduated from 164 in 1974, went to campbell's (yuch), and then off to Hillcrest. graduated from hillcrest in 1980. I don't know if i knew your siblings. i do remember grand union s/c. llast i remember there is a chinese take out place there. the neighborhood has changed. we were all the last of a legacy in that neighborhood.
Hi Karen.
I just moved out to the LA area. It's nice to see someone else from Flushing out here. I saw your you tube and was cracking up. It was very funny. you must have gotten that sense of humor from Flushing because we were all funny. I live in Palos Verdes. Nice place, but far from everything.
Where can you get good pizza or a bagel?
Regards and take care. Corey

Hi Karen,
I knew your brother Kingman well, we used to draw together so much, it was nice to see he has pursued his passion.
Was Tea Cup in the Grand Union plaza right next door basically. If so my family loved that place, mom took us there often, and I still remember some of the best spare ribs ever. Wow it really is a small world!
Try to get Kingman to sign up, I have one sis and a couple of cousins on the board with another sis holding out LOL
I have 2 sisters, Kathy and Judy and 2 younger brothers, Kingman and Kinglin. I believe Judy is the only one who went to Hillcrest. I went to Jamaica also. Our dad opened a restaurant called Tea Cup on Main & Union Tpk. I was warmed to see it's still a Chinese restaurant today! It was such a great little microcosm of the world. It makes you wonder--we went to public schools and turned out all right.
I went to Hillcrest, my brothers went to Jamaica, and
Bowne. Our neighborhood was the best place in the world to grow up; I wish my kid could grow up in the schoolyard as i did; I would trade it for all the private schools and material things in a heartbeat.
Btw, I was just there celebrating Chinese New Year with my family and enroute to JFK, the cab driver drove me and my sis right past PS 164! Such a lifetime away.
Andy:
Hmm...in many ways, LA is a small place where everybody knows everybody else but in other ways.... I don't know your brother. During a break one afternoon, several actors and the sound supervisor were talking about schools they went to back in NY. My sister Judy went to Hillcrest, which the sound supervisor also went to and when I told him her name, his eyes widened and said he LOVED her! Unfortunately, she didn't remember who he was.
you might know my brother, alan tivoli, he graduated 164 in 1963, and has been out in LA for at least 25 years on the financial end of the movie business.
