Hi Ruth It's me again. I had a few minutes so I thought I would drop off a note.
Why no picture? I have so many memories of you and us. You taught me the longest word in the dictionary, playing at your house and in the backyard. I remember your mom, dad and brother Danny. I can picture your room and the secret garden in the back. I used to try to get everyone to do shows with me--i don't think i persuaded you. You were one of the smartest people I ever knew. Anyway, I'm living in East Meadow with my husband--he is an English teacher, pianist, singer, actor. We met doing Fiddler on the Roof at Hofstra . My daughter is a Bio teacher and we have a beautiful 15 month old grandson. My son is at Brooklyn Law. And I am a Chiropractor with a home office. My mom is my office manager--she lives 5 minutes away. My dad passed away when he was 56. I hope this gives you a little glimpse into my life. I'd love to hear about yours. My email is backdoc88@yahoo.com. Abby
Hi Ruth Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. Thanks for the phone number and email. I work today but I will try to email you tomorrow morning--I babysit for my delicious grandson Mondays and Fridays so it might be difficult to call then but I will definitely be in touch. Abby
I was so glad to hear from you Ruth. Since I'm very new to this site--how do I send you my email address privately. It says to go to "send a message" under your name but there is no such thing. Please let me know and I'll be glad to send you my email address. Abby
Hi Ruth I hope you remember me. We were best friends in elementary school and lived across the street from each other. I always wondered what happened to you. I have so many memories from those days. I was in touch with Karen Gang several years ago but we never got together. I also remember Debbie Kranz, Robert Farkas, Harold Schiff and many others. Hope you're doing well. I've never done anything like this before, I don't do facebook but this site intrigued me. Abby
Hi Ruth-Ellen - So nice to hear from you. I am fascinated with this site and hearing from, and hearing about, people from so long ago. It's a little weird, but reassuring to hear about our shared experiences.
Anyway, my sister and I moved out to California in 1970 when her husband transferred. A few years later, my mother sold her store, and settled in Santa Barbara, just north of LA, where she started a small cake baking biz. She sold her Viennese tortes so local restaurants. I had a clothing store for about 14 years, now my son has an art gallery, with some t-shirts - his and friends designs. http://berdhousegallery.com/index.html
Many years of retail - it's likeable work, kinda social and all.
Did you go to Jamaica High. I graduated from there in 1968. Where does your brother live? My sister Jeane and her family moved back east to DC. Her husband went to Georgetown law school - that's the DC connection, and they are grandparents. My kids are still in more formitive stages.
I remember your parents well. Your mother's concern for you and your brother, and your father playing handball with his buddies. Great to hear from you. Many regards, Jackie
My husband went to med school at GW and our son graduated from there a few years ago. He started a laundry business for GW students "Soapy Joes", ran it for 3 years, then sold it. I understand that the east coast is so far from where you live and you would probably be happy if your son went to a school in Calif. I wouldn't allow my kids to apply to schools there for fear that they'd never go east again! Please say hi to Debby Moin. We kept in touch for a while.
Are you still in touch with Karen? She lives in NY and is an audiologist.
that is so funny! our son is looking at gw now -- he's a high school senior. although we'd like him to be closer to home. i see that you're in florida. i just told debby moin about our exchange. she's one of the few people i've always been in touch with (friends since 1st grade). also i was good friends at 164 with karen gang.
OMG- I knew you were going to say that you're married to Jay!!! I loved Jay (don't get nervous, we were just friends). We had a huge Jamaica 30th reunion in 1999 and he wasn't there, I guess because you live so far away. Everyone missed him. But, Stephen Bass was there. The 3 of us went to GWU together.
Hi, I was reading Ronni's page and saw your comment- So,
who did you marry from Jamaica HS? I graduated from Jamaica in '69. I lived around the corner from Ronni, on 78th Rd.
Thanks for writing back. We were in Seattle last summer for a few days before our cruise to Alaska. Great city! I'm back in NYC after doing some time in Annapolis, MD. Loved living in CT and happiest to be back home. I too, have an only child.
Hi Ruth-Ellen:
In my mind, you and Abby Gilbert are always linked. I was jealous of your friendship when we were all in the IGC classes, grades 1-3 with Mrs. Blume. Also, you had pink speckled pointy glasses. I wanted to need glasses so badly, I tried to flunk an eye exam.
Thought this would give you a chuckle. Where are you and do you still see/remember Abby?
Tuesday is fine with me. Ellen will let us know-probably it's fine with her too! How about we meet at the Torneau watch at 34th and 7th? It's outside Penn Station. My cell phone # is 516-250-1887 in case you need to call me. What's yours?
I would love to see you. Let me know the date so I can check my schedule. When you get to the store you can either call my cell (917-749-3966) or ask anyone. Evelyn
Wow. I have no recollection of a pith helmet but that does sound like me. I loved the swimming and the riding. I am now a personal shopper at FAO Schwartz. It's a fun job. Where do you live? My husband George and I live in Massapequa Park. We have a 2 year old pappillion named Wolfie. He's our "son". Evelyn
Joining this site has brought me back in touch with some people I haven't interacted with in about 50 years, so I feel an obligation to write a few people myself. I remember you in first through sixth grades as having a very elegant presence about you. I know I had a crush on you early on -- don't get a big head, there were quite a few. But I think I probably tried to get closer to Danny so I might get to know you better!! I hope he is doing well. I had heard through someone or somewhere that you and your husband connected with Microsoft early on and did quite well. Hope that is true! For my part, I've lived in a number of places around the country and settled fairly recently here in the heartland in Kansas - it is pretty hard for me to believe, but I really love it here. You may recall Myles Schacter - he was in our grade. Harold Schiff wrote me through this site and told me that Myles is based here in Lawrence - since then we have reconnected after a good 45 years. Amazing.
Seattle is a great city. I hope you are well and have enjoyed a plentiful life.
Hi Ruth. I remember R.E.V.P! I live on Long Island. I went to SUNY Albany where I met my husband - we've been married 31 years and have a son, 24 who recently got engaged, and a daughter who just graduated college. Evy is great - I just called her. She works for FAO Schwartz in the city. Send me your email and we can fill each other in. Mine is chocobd@aol.com. How is life in Seattle?
