yumiko,
glad you liked my "two adventures on the Q44 Main Street Bus. anticipated people would be mad because i used the old-fashioned and un-politically correct word "negro" and also thought some people would think i was making fun of gays.
i am trying a different server, same prob. i'll just have to accept the fact i am missing replies which is frustrating. i'm 90% sure i remember you. my memory is of 2 asian kids making that right turn off 137th street on the way home from 164Q. if you lived close to 137th on 75th rd you were across from The Buckos (he was a gardener/did our house) and there were at least 3 or 4 girls i think. Claire and Joanne Bucko were my sister's friends. also there was a girl Diane, class of about '65 lived next to them. my regular email address, which, knowing my prob on this site, might be easier is: estherwasmydog@yahoo.com. just write "164" or your name on the subject so i know.
yumiko,
i left a long (new) discussion under forum, so, that way people can reply just to that since i never know if they are replying to anything else in the forum. under "activity" it says i haven't done anything new since May 15th and that is supposed to tell if anyone replied to posts, etc. btw, i think i might remember you, because i remember an asian family somewhat around the corner on 75th rd. in those days there were no asians, blacks, hispanics or anything. David Gonzalez was the only Puerto Rican and in my 5th grade class and was much taller than everybody because he was left-back a few times. the teacher used to make me tutor him if i finished my test early. even though i was sort of his tutor, he dragged me into the alley behind Vleigh Place and tried to burn me with a cigarette he was smoking. i guess he was almost old enough to smoke even though only in 5th grade
yumiko,
there are all sorts of bugs for me on the site. i see from your site that you can tell if someone replied to any of the discussions - i don't have that even though my setting at the bottom is to be emailed a notification. so, i don't know when anybody is replying (except i DO get an email notification if someone contacts or replies directly to "my page." oh well, hope i haven't missed too much. i emailed patricia that i have a "bug."
Yumiko,
Yes I remember you and you were not a pest ( at least not always ) . When i speak to Fumio I always ask about you. He tells me that you stayed in this country and now live in Las Angeles. I think that is great and I hope you are happy. I see you remember Fred, Fumio and I being "bad". Well at least we turned out ok. If I ever get to LA I will be sure to call.
My very best to you and your family.
yumiko,
i stand corrected; David Chin spoke English (can't remember how well). It was another asian classmate in 4th or 5th grade (she was very tall) who did not. David Chin was in my 3rd or 4th grade class.
Yumiko,
was reading in one of the threads your mention of Jenny Chin. Was she the sister of David Chin? he was in my class approx 4th or 5th grade and hardly spoke a word of english...
Y - if it wasn't for me, you could not have responded to the discussion of who was your favorite teacher, because I reminded you that it was Mrs. Simms (lol). Also, how old is your child? Warren
Y - you are right. I was in your first grade class as well. Also, you have a better memory than I do. I will check the photos when I get a second and see if I can recognize anyone else. Also, I really have not been in touch with anyone from our classes. P.S. David Berger and I had no relationship, sorry. Warren
Y - great hearing and seeing you in these pictures. Brings back great and fond memories. Miss those days also. Happy to hear you are in LA. Warren Berger. Again, I am in NYC (Manhattan). I was in both your 2nd and 3rd grade classes.
Virtually positive it was from you. I think it was from you first went back to Japan. Definitely will send it. Win Hong was a 164 alumus (I thought you asked about him but maybe it was someone else). I will also photograph the house if it's still there. Neighborhood has had many knock downs and rebuilds. The rebuilds sell for around 1.2 to 1.5 million. The regular detached houses (40 x 100) you remember sell for about $860k. It has become an orthodox jeweish neighborhood but not to be confused with the hasidics. Prices not so shocking to you in LA but blows away people from other regions. Finally, my grandmother did used to sit outside garage. My mother still lives there my father died in 76. Anyway, once I solve my technological demons you shall see all. What shows has your husband been involved with?
Actually I found it this past weekend. It wasn't a christmas card but a painted silk panel and it's up on one of my mother's walls. Once I figure out how my digital camera works I'll post a picture.
Never mistake U of P (Ivy League) with Penn State (well just Penn State). Got a degree in Anthropological Archeology. Then went to NYU and got a Masters in Anthropology/Archeology. Had an issue with my PhD committee so I left and went into the precious stone business (Actually Win Hong ended up owing me $20,000 for merchandise he took but never paid for). Went back to school and got my MBA/JD. Went to a law firm for 4 years and ended up as head of the troubled loan dept at National Westminster Bank where I ran a couple of power plants, the ice capades, Harlem Globetrotters and the largest slaughterhouse in America among other things. Transferred to Coutts Bank (Bank of the Queen of England) to shut its NY office. Starting consulting and became CFO of a lace company called Intimate Touch. Liquidated the business and was a consultant to Royal Bank of Scotland where I work now. I'm also. on the outside, helping Jim Ivory of Merchant Ivory in some film finance issues- a name I'm sure your husband knows. Still looking for your card.
Yumiko-I don't remember at what time of day it was when Emmerik gave the Tuna sandwhich the heave--ho out the window. We were in her 2nd floor classroom though and not in the first floor cafeteria! Marty
Yumiko--Hi! In our 3rd grade picture, I'm standing directly behind Neil Zitofsky. The other boy sitting next to you is David Moin. David and I still keep in touch. Marty

My brother Andy was good friends with your brother Fumio.
