I practically lived at the park. Clarence (the parkie) used to complain when we used baseballs instead of softballs. I worked at Bill Zieglers deli, next to the drug store. Bought the paper at Dottie's candy store. I, too, went to Parsons and Jamaica HS.
Graduated in '66 and right into the Navy. This is fun!

I wonder what happened to Jay Sessler, Patrick Gentini and a host of others that ended up going to Parsons.

warren - ok i just looked up some of the old streets. 78th road was about 3 blocks from me toward Jewell Ave. i was on 137th street and 72nd road. i am unfamiliar with Grand Union; we always went to Key Food on Vleigh Place.

warren, did you (on assembly day) wear like not-a-regular tie? maybe one of those ties that had a snap on the top that crossed in an "X" pattern. also, if i remember correctly, you had black hair, usually in a crew or semi-crewcut. of course i might be confusing you with someone else. i believe my mother was friendly with Bender's mother. barry wertheim, my best friend, lived not far from 79th ave; about a block or two closer to Park Drive East. i don't remember all the street names...but 79th was somewhat close to Jewell Ave.

Hi Warren, Alan gave me this website-I guess he got it from you. It's great to see and hear about all the guys from the neighborhhood. Hope you are well. I stopped handicapping the horses years ago but I still watch the big races when I can. I f I'm in California I try to drop by Santa Anita or Del Mar. I miss those days going out to The Big A and Belmont. I think about VP every now and then. Working in the casino business I meet alot of people from NY and I get updates from those that work or live in Queens. It's great to hear from you and hope to saty in touch-Take care Scott

As far as Rusty Siegel goes and Gitler - Last time I saw Gitler was at John Bowne's class of 72 ten-year reunion. Seigel I didn't see much of after Parsons. But I do remember that I was at his home, playing Strato-Matic baseball, when we first learned that Robert Kennedy was shot in L.A. Yes, my wife was the fifth best luger in America in 1977 or so. But that doesn't say much because there were only six women lugers in the U.S. in 1977. Why was she a luger? Her sister-in-law, at the time, was a member of the team, and her brother lived just outside the entrance to the luge run, which at that time, was the half mile point of the bobsled run. For her, it seemed like the thing to do, that is until she almost got killed in competition.

Thanks for the props on memory. I manage a newspaper website - www.pressconnects.com - associated with the Press & Sun-Bulletin in Binghamton. I've been in journalism for 30 years or more, covering everything from the 1980 Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid to several multi-billion dollar corporate buyouts. I switched to the online side of things last year because that's where this industry is headed. I've been married for 22 years to a woman I met in Lake Placid, an upstate girl and former luger. We have two children, a daughter 18, who's going to be attending Binghamton Univ. (known to us back then as Harpur College or SUNY-Binghamton) and perhaps trying to transfer to Univ. of Mich. sometime later. I have a 15-year-old son, a freshman in h.s. who, to his joy, just made the American Legion baseball team.

Welcome to the community Warren. Remember you well. I've been somewhat detached from the site for the past two weeks because of some overwhelming projects at work. That pic on the site was from our time with Mrs. Emerick, who, thankfully, was out much of the year. I still remember her sniffing lunches, and that sourpuss look. That has haunted me for my life. If I recall correctly the long-term sub was Mrs. Weiss, a much needed relief from Emerick.

Warren--In all these years, I've not known anyone else who took guitar lessons from Bill Garr besides myself. He give me a good intro to playing and he was fun to be around. However, I think I will be psychologically damaged now for many years since learning that you were asked to be the dance classes. He never asked me!!!! Was I clumsy back then or did you just have cute legs? The 5th grade picture was 1965--class 5-3. Go to the center of the Main page on this site. Click on ", PS164 tribute site", then on Class Photos. I think you are 2nd from the left-bottom row. Marty
