Hi Debbie I recently have been in touch with Ruth-Ellen through this site. Do you remember me?Any memories from those days would be great--it was a special place and a special time. How is Karen Gang? I am a Chiropractor on Long Island with two grown children and two adorable grandchildren. We moved out here my second semester at Jamaica HS. Hope to hear from you soon. Abby
Thanks makes two of us who have not been here for a long time. Thanks for getting in touch with Alan for me. It's been a really long time. 164 was such a special place. We never realized it when we were growing up. But, looking back we were really lucky to go to school at such a special place.
Hi Debby. Believe it or not I just found this post from you. I do remember you. Alan I actually go back to Jamaica High home room, then Bronx Community College and then yes roommates at 97 Cedarhurst Avenue. It would be great to touch base with him again. Please give him my email, lewbader@gmail.com. Thanks!
Great to hear from you! Sorry I didn't write back sooner. Like you , I 've heard just a little about you from Marty when he talks to Dave. Anyway, I thought I would tell you that I am flying down to Boca tomorrow night (Apr 17) to see my mother-in-law and check on my Dad's condo. Then I leave midday Sunday to drive up to Jacksonville for a conference on Monday. If you are around maybe we could say hello. My cell is 248-470-5300. Call if you have a chance.
Oh wow...Parsons too? I knew about Jamaica but didnt know about Parsons.
The truth is Deb, the only place they really exist anymore is inside us. They are brick and mortar to the real world even though they represent life and youth and hope and many more cornerstone emotions to all of us who experienced it.
If you said they are taking away our memories of Parsons or Jamaica, then I would have an enormous problem. But nobody can do that. And finding people who meant something to you in your life--as yesterday and today shows--means that those schools, the times we spent there, what we learned and more importantly, the people will not ever disappear, regardless of their closing.
Haven not seen Arnie here or on Facebook. I dont think he is a big fan of social sites.
Hey Deb...
Yup, here's your note....I had written on my profile that I wondered if my pensy pinky was still in the well.

I haven't seen to many people. Ive been speaking lately to Cindy Balkin and Cindy Heller. Both out of the blue. Hadn't seen them since the reunion. I'd been down to Florida to see family each December for the past few years. Had I known how many people from 164 lived from Miami to up by you, we could have had an assembly!
Im living in Rockland County. Incredible to see names pop up and conversations started with people we put aside, but never away.
Can't find Arnie on these sites. Saw him about a year ago with Mel, Bob and Marty. I was hoping they'd do another reunion. I still remember sitting in that diner after it was over with a bunch of us and it was like no time had passed. I really didnt want to leave.
You look great Debbie. I don't usually take three months to respond!
Hope all is well for you and hope the bumps in the road haven't been too terrible.
Many of us took musical instrument lessons from Gene, so we were in and out of the Steiker house weekly. I have fond memories of Gene and Francie. Thanks for bringing them back alive. If/when you speak with Francie, please remember me to her.

I see and speak to everyone on a regular basis. We were at Steve's daughters wedding in Fl. in May. Randy's brother Richard leaves in my neighborhood in Queens. Hollis Hills to be exact. Lonnie's two sons got married over the summer and saw everyone at both of their weddings. We all get together on a regular basis. Me Lonnie, Drillings, Danny, Mike and Rhonda Barry, Larry Berkowitz etc.etc.etc.
Hi Debbie- great to hear from you. You look wonderful!!! How long have you been living in Pompano Beach? My parents (89 & 98) live in Boca and I go there very often. Did you know that Gina Gang also lives in Boca? I have been in touch with Karen by email.....
There was a PS 164 reunion, I believe, last spring and there was supposed to be a Jamaica HS reunion around now, but for some reason it was cancelled. Hope all is well. xoxo
We moved in 4 years ago and live in Creekside (mitch from Westside Bagels is our neighbor). Before that I lived in Coral Springs. Which sub-devision do you live in.
Hi Debbie I am still in touch with a lot of the boys from the old days I think Lonnie actually gave me the name BTW he still calls me that as does Red (Danny) and Fly (Mike Stavis)
What a great distraction from a paper I'm supposed to be reading! Your memory is far better than mine. I remember Steve Kant, but not the accident. I went through as divorce as well. Met my first wife in Chicago, we lived in New Orleans for a while, then up to SC where we got divorced. I was lucky and met Lauri and got remarried about five years later. We moved to CO in 1995, then here to Lawrence in 2005. I seem to keep moving to places so distant from anything I ever expected as a kid. Now I live with Dorothy and Toto! But we absolutely love Lawrence, one of the great college communities in the country. I'm lucky in that I always wanted to be a college professor and lived that dream. Now I travel a heck of a lot more than I would like, but have friends and colleagues in nearly every nook and cranny across the land.
Karen Gang! Yes, of course I remember her - another major crush for me (don't worry, you were there, too!). We connected a bit after college - her husband and my older brother were friends. Years and years ago my dad used to pick up Gina and Karen and we all went to a Bowling League - first in Whitestone, later at Regency Lanes. I think Karen was also in my driver's ed class at Jamaica. Strange what we remember. I always thought highly of her.
My step mother is a ways from you in Boynton Beach. My dad remarried years after my mother passed away, and he lived about ten years down there. I get to southern FL a few times a year for work-related stuff and always visit my step mother when there.
Reading teacher...God's work! Good for you. Those who aren't teachers never appreciate the importance and difficulty of what you do.
Hey - thanks again. This is fun. I think Jamaica is planning another reunion this spring and I'll try to head back if I can fit it in.

I don't recall the name Randy Pretto. I remember where you lived, but that name just doesn't ring a bell.
By the way, on the "chosen" thing - I'm with you. Hard to figure. But don't let on -- I think I have my poor wife and kids convinced...
