That was MY barbie dream house!!!! Remember I threw in a couple of dolls and all the clothes my mother made,,thats why I think shes really so sick about me selling it HAHA and I can only imagine what theyd be worth now. Barbie was new in 59. I got mine when I was about 5 so thats 1963.Im gonna look it up..and probably get sick lol.. You know I actually won the blue ribbon at the long island fair for my dollhouse maaannnnyyy years later lol I went through a phase of making miniature houses and once I saw the dreamhouse at an antique fair and bitched about selling it to you thenHAHA I dont have any kids. after school, I went to europe for 2 years, graduated w a degree in Social work, worked childhood enrichment for many years and now have been an activity director for 11 yrs at this place. I was only married a short time and my work is kinda my life. I had a bunch of major twists and turns but always had a very warm spot in my heart for my childhood(and barbie dolls lol) Anyway I just talked to Barbara . SHe wants me to give u her number but I dont wanna post it. Whats your email or how can I send it to u privately?
hi again! I know this will sound crazy but do u remember how you got rid of the barbie doll collection? lol I wanna tell the old folks lol and my mom just told me she regretted that so much lol and she reember you always loved animals!
She has a 14 yr old daughter and lives in Westbury. She recently went back to school and got her bachelors and now runs an office. Well u should let her tell u!! She is gonna be so excited that we found u!! You know what else I remember is that u had a color tv and I used to love to pick up Barbara from your house so I could check it out lol The funny thing is that the Barbie doll story and the tv story are stories I have told many times to the old folks where I work. tvs and the value of things come up in coversation alot lol Are u ever in NewYork?? Im gonna call my sister now and tell her!!!You guys have a lot to talk about!! HAHA
susie!!!!!! Its Debbie Labensky, Barabaras sister!!! AHHHH!! How the hell r u?? Do u still have y Barbie Dolls I sold to u for $5!!!!!! HAHAHA My mother will EVER let me live that down!!!!!
For years I told the story of how my parents moved to NJ and left me in NY at your house for your Bar Mitzvah....to think that my whole life is a lie - lol!!! What other incorrect tidbits am I telling people...I did have Mrs. Simon, didn't I??? lol
Now I wonder what other memories are correct- lol. I know I stayed somewhere because my grandmother took me to NJ the day after my parents left - where did I stay????? I just called my mother to ask her cause this is really bothering me - it is funny, when I mentioned your name she said yes, that is where you stayed but you might have had someone else's Bar Mitzvah. I guess my mind was going even at 13 years old!!!!
Hi. You didn't have even a little Bat Mitzvah celebration (small something???)?? I remember staying at your house...I have remembered it for so many years now I am wracking my brain trying to remember where I was (hahah and I thought age made me forget everything!!).
Hi. Susie, of course I remember you. I remember staying at your house the night my family moved to N.J. because the next day was your Bat Mitzvah (I think I am remembering this correctly). For the record, your Bat Mitzvah was the only one I attended in those years...it was very hard moving to a new house at 13 years old!!! I remember riding bikes and I remember your mom and your house quite well. Funny how when I think back, memories come flooding back. I live in N.J. but used to do a lot of work in Chicago...wonder if I passed you in the city???
Hi Susie,
I've been in Long Island now for 19 yrs. My husband past away 4 1/2 yrs ago from cancer. My girls are 20, 16 & 12. I teach in Whiteston so I'm in Queens everyday. My mom is in the same apartment. My dassed passed a few mos ago.
I was sorry to learn about Carol. I hope she wasn't sick long. My sister Harriet was friendly with her as they were the same age. Give my regards to your brother Stu.
Hi
I am an old neighbor from 78th ave and was in your brothers class.I worked on your car before you took it up to school. I am sorry to hear that your mom passed away. My mom passed away in 98. How is your brother doing, and how are your sisters? My sister was friends with your older sister. I now live in NJ and sometimes visit KGH.
Best regards Marty Grossman.
Just to let you know...I just happened to get your response. I think you must be hitting the wrong button because your responses to me are on your own page.
I am sorry to hear about your parents, too. I remember your Mom so well. I can still picture her. Where in Bay Terrace did your mom live? My parents moved into a condo on Bell Blvd. right next to the Bay Terrace Shopping Center. We always loved to walk around the Center and eat at Ben's and buy dessert at The Cake Box. We do not have any real bakeries here so it was always a treat to bring things back. We would also stock up on good NY bagels!!
Sorry to hear about your parents. My dad passed away in 1988 and my mom moved to Bay Terrace shortly thereafter--who knows, are mothers may have been neighbors? My mom passed away in 2001, so we don't get back to NY as much as we used to. My brother still lives on Long Island, but the rest of us are completely scattered.
If anyone is actually working on plans for a reunion, I would love to come back to NY for it. What a kick that would be. I guess some of my brothers friends had a small reunion; he sent me a photo, and all I could think was "wow, they look old!"
Susie
Hi Susie,
Rick and I have lived in Potomac, MD (a suburb of DC) for the past 23 years. We met in graduate school (Penn State) and since he grew up in the metro DC area, we decided to stay. I absolutely love it here. We were going quite frequently back and forth to NY to visit my parents who moved in 1995 to Bay Terrace. Unfortuately, my Mom passed away in 2004 and my Dad in 2005. My brother lives on Long Island, my sister in N.J. and my daughter atttends Hofstra Univ.--our connection and reason to go back (except to visit the city for theater, etc.). I am hoping this reunion takes place because it would be fun to see everyone again.
Rick's 25th is at the end of May. We will not be able to attend because it is my nephew's Bar Mitzvah. We have gone back a couple of times and combined it with a visit to Penn State. Rick took my son this past Fall to a Bucknell football game and was amazed how much the campus has grown.
Yes, I remember that your husband went to Bucknell. We were back at Bucknell last summer for our 25th college reunion...but 35 years since 164 is even more amazing! My kids are 14 and 11. They're getting a kick out of this, too. I've been at Lincoln Park since 2004, but was at Brookfield Zoo before that (from the mid 90's). Do you still live in Queens?
Hi Susie,
I do remember speaking with you. I believe I told you that my husband, Rick went to Bucknell for his undergrad degree. He graduated in '83. You have been working at the zoo for quite a long time if I recall correctly. I remember reading it in the Bucknell newspaper. How old are your children? I love this site!! It has been so much fun reconnecting with old friends. My children think it is hysterical to see what people wore "back in the 'ole days!"
