What a lovely surprise to receive your comment and to read the comments of those to whom you have reached out. Yes, I was too, am very sad that our precious site is closing down. Those years we all spent together will be Yes, you have a wonderful idea to exchange emails. My email address is dottiesings@aol.com. I will put your email in my address book. I hope you had a wonderful summer and look forward to keeping in touch even it is not often. I am not a proficient organizer, but I have an idea! What do yu think of inviting our classmates of '59 to have a reunion at a restaurant or some type of facility? I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
Nice to hear from you and do hope you and your family are well. We are fine. Good idea to assemble an email list. While I haven't accessed the site often, it's been nice to have it available and hear from people now and then. My email is kenneth6012@hotmail.com. Take care and be well.
Best,
Janet
Hi Bonnie - thanks for getting in touch. I'm saddened too by the impending loss of this website. Like you, I haven't been by so much the past few years, but every once in a while an old friend pops up and I re-engage. And now that it's closing, I've also felt the urge to touch bases one last time, perhaps, with those I've renewed acquaintances with here - and with those, like yourself, that I didn't know so well back then but have truly enjoyed meeting here. Thank you for sending me your contact info. I would very much like the opportunity to stay in touch. Are you on Facebook? I've been more active here than there, but if this site migrates to Facebook, I'd certainly help get it launched. Short of that, here's my contact info:

I do hope we'll get to correspond some more. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on psychoanalysis and film (I'm a film buff too), as well as more generally.

I just found this message thread, and although I was a year earlier than you, I distinctly remember Mrs. Bromberg (at assembly, in our white shirts) and of course the "documents" for which I will always be grateful to Dr. Karrow.
Thank you, Bonnie and wishing your family a very Happy and Healthy New Year as well. Hope all of you are doing fine. Hoping for a trip to NY in spring and if so, would love to get together. All my best-- Janet

bonnie,
just scanned a picture of the MG shot by my father out the window of the garden apartment in 1954. would be glad to send it as a JPEG attachment on regular email. my regular email is: estherwasmydog@yahoo.com - give me yours and i'll send the image over.
Hi Bonnie--
Happy Passover to you. So nice to hear from you -- glad your family is well. We are doing fine. Unfortunately, the project has cut back to meetings every 3 - 4 months now. My colleague will attend the April meeting and hopefully, I will attend the summer meeting and perhaps we can get together then. Congratulations for your daughter's upcoming graduation -- a very exciting time! Enjoy! Regards to Joel. Fondly-- Janet
Hi Bonnie--
So nice to hear back from you so quickly. Sign of the times -- with our kids so far away and only visiting once in fall -- we went trick or treating and then sat down to Thanksgiving dinner!! It was great fun! Enjoy your family and hopefully, it won't be too long before we can get together. All my best-- Janet
Hi Bonnie--
Thanks for writing and for the hug -- I'm sending hugs to you and missing you. Our kids and grandkids were here visiting this week so it has been great fun! Hope that we will get to NY soon and get to see you and Joel.
Hi Bonnie,
Great to hear back from you so quickly! I did have a solo in "The Ballad..." You have a very good memory.
I'd be happy to speak with you. I work from home quite often, and can usually speak during the day. My office number is 732.925.5135 if you'd like to give me a call.
Hi Bonnie,
I remember you and Dorothy Lerner sharing the lead in My Fair Lady. I was in the chorus and had a solo for "Wouldn't It Be Loverly." I also played the Good Witch of the North in the "Wizard of Oz." I lived at 78-06 Main Street near Union Turnpike and was friends with Ellen Breslau, Susan Elfenbein and Lily Rosen.
I remember that you were very smart. I moved away in the 6th grade, so I didn't go to JHS with anyone from PS 164. I did go to Forest Hills HS and reconnected with some of my old friends.
It's fun to share memories with everyone on this site. I'm interested in a reunion if there is one.
Dear Bonnie, We lived across the street from each other on 138th. Do you remember David Brody and Martin Kalisky? They also lived on our block. Eileen and I were very good friends in grade school and our parents knew each other well too. (two aunts & their families) lived across from each other on 78th Avenue; and my grandmother lived in the upper court for a while). I did like growing up in those apartments and remember the brick lattice work walls covered with roses--is that right? I liked to play in the little playground in the court (lower) directly behind my apartment; and remember ring o'leavio (or whatever it was called). There were so many kids exactly the same age--mostly before the war (my brother's age) and after (mine). If you can figure out how to do a picture, that would be great. My brother and I made it for the very tail end of the reunion (with my cousin Paul--his brother Carl Harris unfortunately passed away, but he was in the first or second graduating class as a transfer student). Is "spot" the cocker spaniel who lived upstairs from me? (on the side of 138th street closer to Main and further from Park Drive East). I think he must be.
bonnie - i don't remember your brother, he was 2 years older. my mother does not remember Spot being run over but she does remember Spot. if you push me i will post a picture of me and him in the hallway. also a few pictures of The Moses on the stoop w/my parents. i don't own a scanner, but my neighbor down the street does. since you specialize in psychiatry/psychology/movies do you make patients see that Alfred Hitchcock "Suspicion" w/Cary Grant. i think there was a shrink in that...also a mid-60's Gregory Peck i think called "Mirage" dealing with with the then hip malady of "amnesia." well, again i am glad you remember the 1952 MG TD - i can scan a pic of that on the block too...
peter
my mother 'thinks' she remembers the Epsteins - no one else. Ed and Pat Jacobson also used to hang out on our stoop - they are the parents of Peter Jacobson who was friends w/my sister and the ex-wife of Fran Drescher who starred in "The Nanny." we have lots of "stoop" pictures.
bonnie - most of the cars on the block (we have many pics from our 2nd fl window) were very staid - many old Hudsons and other 4-door sedans. our other "everyday" car was my mother's 1953 Plymouth convertible. i believe it was light blue. i am glad you remember the MG - it was black and my father kept it until 1969. i cannot read your last email as i type this so cannot respond point-for-point. i will, however ask my mother about all the names you mentioned. other friends from the garden apartments were The Gilberts (Abby was the daugher my age) and Harold and Ilene Dolman (sp). Ilene Dolman was the daughter of Betty O'Keefe who lived somewhere close too - she was our babysitter through 1964. btw, do you remember (lived a little further away, toward Main Street Fritzie and "Smitty" Smith who were the parents of John and an older sister (think her name was Torie)? Fritzie was our other babysitter. anyway, you are 6 years older than me.
peter
bonnie,
yes "spot" is correct. we moved from those garden apartment 1955 and i do not remember them, but do have a photograph of me and Spot in the hallway separating us and the Moses. i did not know he was run over. i will call my mother in West Palm Beach and ask if she remembers you and will also see if she recollects Spot was run over. The Moses remained good friends with my parents for a long time and their son Donnie and his friend Mickey Ferber (sp?) used to hang around with my father and work on his antique cars which he kept in the garages behind Vleigh Place - a 1930 Model A Ford with a rumble seat and a 1930 La Salle - both in showroom condition. he also had a 1952 MG TD which he parked in front of the apartment (we have pictures from our 2nd floor apartment of the cars parked on the street - if you are at all a car person i bet you would recognize some.
peter
bonnie - i just canceled my place for the reunion and encouraged the reunion committee to give my spot to someone else. this was yesterday, so if you inquire Patricia Weppler or Howard Goldman soon maybe you can come - since you live in nyc it shouldn't be too difficult.
Hi Bonnie. I definitely remember those guys: allan fleisig, allan champagne, marc gradstein. And now I'm reading Rick's e mail, who i don't remember at all...but i lived next door to Ellen Breslau...on 141st Street. And I went out on a "date" with Bobb Duckman!
Hi Bonnie - sure, I remember Ellen Breslau. She was my downstairs neighbor. I remember Margot and Leon, too. Unfortunately, what I remember most about Margot was that she was always outside on sunny days with a reflector under her chin, working on her tan. Ellen too. I recall hearing (some time later) that Margot got skin cancer and died. That was disturbing. Ever hear anything about Ellen in later years? After high school, I lost all news of her.
If you make it to the reunion, I'll bring you a bean bag from our trees. If they're still there!
Rick
hi Bonnie. This is Elaine Wolff. I need to go and look at my pictures from back then but I remember your name. And I definitely remember Dorothy Lerner. I also live in Manhattan (upper west side) and I'm a social worker. Worked for the city and am now retired but still doing some consulting. Wondering if you remember me. Anyway, just last night, I decided to google P.S. 164 and boom, I found this. I haven't figured out how to add a picture, but will try and figure it out in the days or weeks to come. Look forward to hearing back from you. Elaine
