what gig do you do, what instrument and where? smither is hardly new as i saw him on McDougal street in the 70's. he's a hard playin guitar singer with lots of sort of like reverb in his voice. tedeschi is a new blues singer who does a rendition of john prine's,angel from montgomery, like miss bonnie raitt's version, altho bonnie 's got that song down.

i cut school and sat all day at the fillmore to get tickets for the who at avery fisher hall, saw the stones, hendrix at the garden, the ramones at queens college before they were the ramones,dylan, laura nyro, the kinks, those are the stand outs, what else. then there was iron butterfly in flushing meadow, patti smith in ann arbor at a small club doing g l o r i a.This sumer i hope to see buddy guy, alejandro escaveda and dylan to name just a few. i saw joe cocker at the fillmore but that's all i remember about that nite!

i would like to read your commentary on the fillmore. i listen to more music now than ever. we moved to a row house on 71st Ave when i went to 4th grade. but the vivid memories are the ones from vleigh place with the adirondack chairs, spooky basements, chasing fireflies all over the courtyards with lots of kids all around, going to dotties for lime rickeys and BLT's, and playing in the playgrounds.

Oh, Pete definitely get those pictures scanned, I imagine that the pictures you have would be great for other people to look at. How old are you? I just turned 52 on Friday. Peter, What made you move to Massachusetts? Do you miss New York? It's amazing how so many years later, we still have P.S. 164 on our minds. Why is that.? I don't feel that way about junior, or high school, or even college. It's wierd... Take care.

Now that I got the mystery of the twins (Buckos) out of the way, here is another one for you. I remember there were a pair of identical twins who were older than me. They were girls...and Asian. They wore the same outfit (I think...perhaps different color but same style) and had straight bangs and long hair. Since you are a year older than me and stayed there till 6th grade, thought you may know of them. I was always wondering if they were Japanese or not.
Come to think of it, for a predominantly white neighborhood, there were quite a number of Asians way back then at PS 164.

Yup, I live about 3 miles from Tanner/Hiller Airport, going towards Worcester. The Tanners used to have a good restaurant there, but it's gone and I don't think anything's replaced it. I don't know that there's any reason for planes to stop there now. But if you're ever passing over the neighborhood, touch down, give me a call at 508-882-3083; I'll pick you up, make you lunch, and show you around.

Do you have a website where I can find out more about what you're up to? My Google on your name pulled up a lot of false leads.

Other odds and ends: Larry Fox was in my class. I think of him whenever some yahoo tells me somebody "looks Jewish." And I believe I remember the Buckos, though not well. Twins get noticed. I'm wondering if the "Rona" that Yumiko mentioned was my first girlfriend, Rona Herskowitz. They lived down by the Simons. Was that your neighborhood?

No, I don't think I knew the Buckos. But I now remember there were twin girls living on the corner of 137th and 75th. I think there was a tall hedge row on the 137th side of the sidewalk too. We lived down the middle of 75th rd...the last house on the right hand side that was a single family home.

My "Activity" section is not up to date either. It says the last activity was on March 20 when I posted the Firefly Topic. Have you tried using a different internet server to sign on to the site? (not sure if that would help, but it won't hurt to try, right?)
Yes, we were the only Asian family on our block (75th rd). My mother told me she specifically looked for a neighborhood where there were no Japanese families so we could all learn the language quicker. Well, that worked alright. My brother Fumio was soon running around with all his new friends and I was making house calls to all of my neighbors. My neighbors Rona ('60 I think) and Dorothy (59) were the only other PS 164'ers I know of. I don't remember seeing a lot of young kids on my block, although I did know Andy who was about my age or younger,and wore a kippah all the time. He may have gone to a nearby Jewish school...if there was one. I saw a lot of kids walk past 75th rd and continue on 137th...You were probably one of them. I always wanted to live out that way because there seemed to be more kids from school which meant potentially more friends to play with.

Hope you can get your problem resolved very soon.

By the way, I just LOVED reading your Two Adventures on the Q44!

hmmmm...what if you use a different server? I use Mozilla Firefox 99% of the time, but when there are times that I cannot open a website or cannot get through to a link my friend sent me, I always switch it to Internet Explorer and have gotten through.
My daughter's swim team website, for example, had problems with Mozilla Firefox users...except for me for some reason.

Why not try checking your email using another server...if you can do that...

Oh...and one thing, I am no computer expert. I am pretty computer/internet illiterate, so all this may have nothing to do with why you are not getting the notifications.

Oh...by the way, have you checked your "Spam" box? Or maybe your Firewall is blocking it??? (just another amateur thought)

Yup, blonde kids - and redheads, like me. And dark-haired Asians and Italians, etc. - it wasn't like going to Maine, exactly. It was a small band of kids though, made smaller when I told Mrs. Rosenberg I was converting to Judaism in the 4th grade. Actually, I'd converted to atheism in the second grade, which permitted some cynical flexibility in my professed religious affiliations; but Judaism seemed a lot closer to atheism than Methodism, or whatever I was supposed to be (my parents never sent me to church), at least back then in the heyday of Reformed Judaism (the old neighborhood's gotten a lot more Orthodox since). My teachers never questioned my not showing up on the holy days after that, and I think we were all relieved when they finally became holidays for everyone.

Kind of enjoyed the arts and crafts though...

Peter - I see you live in Turner's Falls, not far from me (Oakham's just the other side of the Quabbin). I've been there a few times - my wife used to work for Strathmore Paper, which had a plant there, and I just retired from UMass. Let me know if you're performing or showing your work somewhere nearby - I'd love to see what you're up to.

Do you get a notification from the website when anyone posts comments on your PS 164 page? It's the same with the Discussion Groups. If you participate in any discussion, when anyone else posts a comment under that discussion (regardless of whether it is a direct response to yours or to someone else's comment) then you will get a notice via email...and then you click on the link and it will take you to that new comment. If you are not getting the notice, then go to the Discussion/Forum page and at the very bottom there is a note that should say something like Follow --email me when People Reply or Stop Following-- Don't email me when people reply. Yours must be on the Stop Following mode. Just click on the Follow--email me when people reply and you should be getting the notices with the link via email.

Otherwise, if you just want to follow discussions, you have to scroll down every one. Also, you can tell if someone posted a new comment or not by looking at the Forum section of the Main Page. If any new comments/discussions are posted, that particular discussion moves to the top. Sometimes, out of curiosity, I will scroll down to check the latest comment.
