Who remembers Mrs. Berman's French songs? I remember two of them. They were called "Qui me passera?" and "Mon Merle Aperdu Une Plume." Did every class have to learn these 2 songs, or was it just the Class of 1975?

Oh! Of course! That's also how I know you...from Peter Pan! Thanks for reminding me! If I get my act together, I'm going to send some Glee Club photos to Patricia, for the website. I'm sure you're in some of them!

So you don't know the other girls I'm talking about? Sylvana and Jimena? I think that they, too, were in the class of '74, although maybe they weren't in IGC, with you?

And who was the pretty girl, with dark straight hair and bangs, who played Wendy? I can't remember her name. Was she also part of the class of '74?

hi mchelle... welcome your son is adorable. how old is he? i too remember the candle lighting ceremony. qui me passera was a sad song as i recall. Another memory have is of the giant candy jar in your bedroom , is there any left??

Many memories being brought back. But Regents in French after 6th grade? Don't remember that.
Forgot about the candle-lighting ceremony.

The words to Le Bon Homme De Neige are the following (pardon me for the bad spelling, but I stopped studying French after 6th grade) :

Le voila, gros et gras, c'est le bon homme de neige
Le voila, gros et gras, qui le beau comment sa
Et gros, Et gras, c'est le bon home de neige
Et gros, Et gras, qui le beau comment sa

Always think about this when there's snow outside. Of course, now that I'm living in Dallas, there is no snow outside.

LOL!!! Good for you!! I'm going to call you to hear the melody over the phone. I can *almost* hear it, but I'm suddenly confusing it with the melody of the French song that the kids, from the movie "South Pacific," sing with/to their father. Don't ask me why!

I can't believe that as soon as I saw the words, the melody came back, and I'm singing it now. We've had 5 inches of snow since yesterday, and I'm just grinning. Thanks for the memory.

I remmeber Mrs Berman's French classes. I was in the class of 1977 and we had Mrs Berman for French because our teacher, Mrs Silverman, had a lot of extra activities to handle. I remember singing "Mt Blanc es un montana (or something like that) about a mountain in France. I still remember a little French after taking her class, although I never got to practice it after that. My kids think I am crazy when I say the little phrases I remember....

I graduated in 72 and only started 5th grade at the end of October after moving to the neighborhood but to this day can still sing "petit(e) papa noel" can't spell it, but can sing it! how weird is that?

I guess she really made an impression on all of us, in little ways, here and there. Regardless of whether or not people liked her, I think all these memories signify that she was a good teacher.

I went on to become a French Major in college and I definitely remember both songs! I think I was in the class of '68.

I do remember "Mon merle aperdu une plume..." And how about, "Napoleon avec cinq cents soldats/ Napoleon avec cinq cents soldats/ Napoleon avec cinq cents soldats/ Marchons du meme pas." Amazing, the stuff that comes back to you (even if I'm not spelling the numbers right!). But I simply don't recall that Mrs. Berman had the temper everyone's referring to.

I can remember two others - one about a snowman - C'est Le Bon Homme de Neige and one about a Miller and a Windmill spinning out of control (Meunier tout dors?). We always had to do these goofy arm motions along with them. But we were young and I guess she was teaching to her audience. Oh, and I think she translated El Condor Pasa into French for Mrs. Simon's class.

Yes, my brother reminded me of the snowman song, too. Funny how those things stick with you! How are you, Beth?!!! So nice to hear from you! Do you remember me? I used to live on your street -- on the same side of the street, too. We used to play at Ellie's house, together. If you'd like to contact me personally, my email address is janetrperlmutter@verizon.net Would love to know what happened to you after your family expanded and you moved away. ~Janet
