Famous Alumni

We all are well aware of Mrs Simon's claim to fame but are there more alumni who have gone on to greatness?

I for one know Stanley Eisen (Paul Stanley of KISS) was a graduate. My uncle told me he went to 164 with him and they were good friends, I remember Mr. Ricca verified this for me. Stanley later went on to Parsons JHS I believe.

Anybody else?

i'll never forget. i was working at Moo & Brew and my boss Jack was good freinds with Paul. All of a sudden a Corvette pulls up and out gets a guy with big hair and clogs. He goes in the store and Jack calls me over to introduce me to Paul. I got to see him with no make up on. He gave me an autograph on a paper bag. Kiss still rocks today.

Another alum of note and renown: Howard Chaykin, one of the top comic artists and graphic novelists in the US for the last 30 years. He was the artist for DC's first "Star Wars" adaptation before going off to create his own critically acclaimed "American Flagg" comic, and he's worked on countless solo and collaborative projects since. Howard's younger brother Ira and I became close friends and basketball buddies back in the 70's, after I'd gotten married and moved back to the neighborhood (still on 141st St.; they lived across Vleigh Place, in the Regency Apt's, on the block across from Our Lady Queen of Peace). Ira told me his brother knew back in the second grade that he wanted to be a comic artist and never left the path. They would have both graduated in the early to mid-60's.

That's so cool Rick. Oh, following up on an earlier message re: Peter Salgo, he was a medical reporter for WCBS in NYC. I ran into him in Central Park a few summers ago.

What a small world, my family lives on 141st Place but we used to live on Vleigh Place. If you have absolutely nothing better to do on Saturday night 2/16 at 10 p.m. on NBC, I'm in a Law and Order episode called 'Bottomless'. I played the mother of the victim. If you miss the teaser and opening scene, I only appear in the courtroom at the end.

Mrs. Simon was my reading teacher. (I was later diagnosed with dyslexia). I went on to become an actor/writer/filmmaker/photographer and live in Los Angeles. The biggest billing I've gotten was co-starring in "Wild Bill", starring Jeff Bridges and Ellen Barkin, who also went to Parsons Jr. High School.
