                        i wasn&#039;t a big shopper, but, remember when The Beatles early records came out in &#039;64 and the only place to get them was Wainrights (was that Kissena Blvd - unsure of the names of streets and dept stores 40 years ago). the LP cost $2.99 (i think) and, at the same time, displayed near the LPs &#039;Beatle Wigs. why, exactly is the world so much less-safe do you think? our only worry at the time was occasionally getting &#039;roughed-up&#039; by the greaser wannabees...but in the rare case when that happened, we…                    </summary>

                        yeah, years later I hitched all over too..Its a new world..Its the future thats for sure..On one hand, its amazing how far we come as far as tecnology but as far as safety, its a sad thing howUN safe the world is now. I also took the bus into Flushing too when I was about 10(I lived on 77th by Queen of Peace) I remember feeling more comfortable in Flushing than Jamaica shopping. My favorite store was Big Johns I could walk in there with my $3 and come out with a shopping bag full of stuff and…                    </summary>

                        not being a parent, i&#039;m not sure parents let their kids do stuff like that anymore (at age 10 anyway). i was having a discussion about how everybody used to hitch-hike everywhere in the late 60&#039;s and early 70&#039;s with no problems. my very good-looking sister never got bothered and i hitchiked across the country a few times, and into nyc, upstate, Montauk, Wasington D.C. - got picked up within a few minutes everytime, was invited to crash at the driver&#039;s house, etc. anyway, that kind of thing…                    </summary>
